Island Lake home fire appears to be electrical

A house fire outside Island Lake Sunday morning remains under investigation, Wauconda fire officials said.

The fire, which started at about 4:40 a.m., left the home in the 4000 block of Wildwood Drive uninhabitable, officials said.

The residents of the home were awakened by smoke detectors and found the basement of the home full of smoke. They dialed 911 as they escaped the blaze.

The fire was extinguished by 5:30 a.m., officials said.

No one was injured. The family dog, which remained inside the home after firefighters arrived on the scene, was rescued uninjured by members of the Wauconda Fire Department.

Officials said the fire might have started in the basement laundry room area, then spread to the first floor of the two-story home through a laundry chute.

The fire caused less than $100,000 damage, officials estimated.

Emergency personnel from Barrington, Lake Zurich, Fox Lake and Cary as well as the McHenry County sheriff's police responded to the blaze.
