Barrington library board seeks member

The Barrington Public Library District board of trustees is currently seeking to fill a vacancy on its board. The appointee will serve until the next election on April 5, 2011.

Campanelli YMCA offers fitness testing

The Alfred Campanelli YMCA in Schaumburg will host Ultimate Test Labs, a "state of the art" independent fitness testing lab to perform body composition, cardiovascular, and metabolic testing on Oct. 17.

Metabolic testing and cardiovascular testing is 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; body composition testing is 8 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Fees are: Resting Metabolic Rate (metabolic testing) $65; VO2-Max/Sub-Max (cardiovascular) $78; Hydrostatic Weighing (underwater body composition) $52. Wheeling HS stages lively British farce

The comedy "Out of Order" will be on stage in the Wheeling High School theater this weekend; performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 8 and 9, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

The plot involves a junior minister in the British government, who is planning a little tryst with a secretary for the opposition; while preparing for the romantic evening, they discover a "dead" body trapped under the window sash.

The cast includes John Remaly, Harlan Rosen, Julia O'Brien, Maegan Draka, Brenna Merrill, Nick Caputo, Jon Tracey, Daniel Malsom, Hannah Compton and Ashleigh Alm.

Stylist says 'go pink' for cancer awareness

Evy Levin, a hairstylist at Chrysalis Hair Salon, 9 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights, is hosting "Pink Hair for Hope" during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Have a pink hair extension applied for $10 and the proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Society. Socap (Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals) International and hairstylists raised more than $450,000 last year. (847) 253-8573.

Not-for-profits learn the social networks

The Volunteer Center of Northwest Suburban Chicago will offer a social media marketing workshop, 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 7, called "Social Networking-Online Resources." Presenters will discuss the latest strategies and tools used by nonprofits for marketing and fundraising on the Internet, including Facebook and Twitter, Google for Nonprofits and lesser-known but effective services.
