We all had a hand in this mess

This is a response to Cal Thomas' Sept. 27 column (Glenn Beck is what Americans want. Any questions?) Yeah, I have a few. First, I am almost sure Don McLean would not be a willing participant in any correlation with Cal Thomas or Glenn Beck. Second, how would Cal know that the words this man spews is what we as Americans want? In this op-ed Cal brings up Disney, Red Skelton as those that Glen Beck admires. Gee, I watched Red and Walt Disney shows as a child. If Cal also was young enough to watch these shows he should have been able to see what a hypocrite Beck is by having these photos on his office walls. Walt Disney and Red Skelton would never have advocated the hate and fear that Beck does on his show. Just the tone alone would never have sold in the '60s. He would have been fired for this fear he spews.

As for stirring the pot? Yeah, hate and fear sell. Especially now, in this economy. Where has Glenn Beck been the previous eight years? How quickly do we forget? How did we find ourselves in this mess? Was it OK when we were led down this path of destruction because a so-called conservative Republican was in office?

No, we all need to look in the mirror. Many bought into the free money and the lies about the war. The mess we are in was not caused by only conservatives or liberals. We all had a hand in this mess, and Glenn Beck and his kind should know better than to try to blame it on any one side.
