Special needs kids in D214 ponder life after high school

"Directions," the postsecondary planning night for District 214 students with special needs, will be held Oct. 20, at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights, dedicated to assisting families in finding postsecondary opportunities for their special needs children.

Representatives from a number of schools and programs will distribute literature and discuss their programs in detail. Speaker Michael Frey will discuss the importance of family involvement in the transition process, and will moderate a panel of college students, asking them to reflect upon their experience with transition.

Another presenter will discuss the selection of services and programs at the postsecondary level. Attendees will get a compiled directory categorizing colleges/universities that offer various levels of support for students with disabilities.
