Scouting Rolling Meadows @ Elk Grove
Rolling Meadows (3-2, 1-0) at Elk Grove (4-1, 1-0)
When 7:30 p.m. today at Robert Haskell Stadium
Last week Meadows d. Hersey 26-0; Elk Grove d. Wheeling 35-6
Outlook A lot of the attention will be on two of the MSL's top QBs in Meadows' Jimmy Garoppolo (859 yards, 11 TD, 3 INTs) and Elk Grove's Nick Meyer (807 yards, 7 TDs, 0 INTs; 523 yards rushing, 12 TDs) but maybe more of it should be placed on the guys trying to stop them from. For Meadows' defense allowing an area-best 195 yards a game that goes to the front led by Erick Louis-Charles while LBs Colin Buscarini and Dan Lowry are bolstered by the return of Andrew Peters and Luciano Laterza. "I thought we'd continue to get better and better with all those young kids," Meadows coach Doug Millsaps said. "Our kids have a lot of pride and the expectation is they will have success." Meadows also gets WR Marius Salkauskas back with deep threat Tony Taibi against an opportunistic and aggressive Elk Grove defense allowing only 205 yards and is plus-13 in turnovers behind LB Kyle Pfister and Meyer. "I have a lot of respect for Jim (Garoppolo) and they do a lot of things with him," said Elk Grove coach Brian Doll. "I was most impressed with him in the Fremd game - he did such a good job of avoiding people. They could very well be 5-0 and that's what we've told our kids." A win makes Elk Grove playoff eligible for the first time since 2004 and it leads the series 19-17 but Meadows has won the last four.
