Donate bikes for needy kids
Through Thanksgiving, Mikes Bike Shop in Palatine will collect bicycles for underprivileged children.
The bike shop at 155 N. Northwest Hwy. takes in unwanted bikes, tunes them and cleans them up, replacing tubes, tires, seats, grips, cables and training wheels as needed.
In the last eight years, Mikes has given away more than 1,500 bicycles to underprivileged children and adults through such organizations as PADS and church groups, as well as to Hurricane Katrina victims and missionaries in Africa, Haiti, and Mongolia.
The shop will give away 10 bikes and locks on Monday, Oct. 5, and plans another donation on Nov. 24.

Both sessions will be hosted by Rita Lopienski, a certified Laughter Yoga trainer and registered music therapist.
Both events are free and open to the public, though reservations encouraged. Call (847) 213-0100 or e-mail rlopienski@pathwaysl.com.
