Entertainers highlight Fox Lake Oktoberfest

The village of Fox Lake's annual Oktoberfest is back this weekend for the eighth year. Parks and Recreation Coordinator Nancy Rogers tells us what you need to know.

Q. What makes this such a fabulous event?

A. It is a family event for all ages.

Q. What's the highlight of the event?

A. The entertainers and food. The Fox Lake Classic Cinema will have SpongeBob SquarePants on location at 1:30 p.m. Parents will be able to take their children's picture with him.

Q. What kind of activities will appeal to kids and families?

A. We have hayrides, pony rides, a petting zoo, Busy Brains Children's Museum, children's crafts, moonwalk, Blitz Football and other games. The children can also decorate pumpkins to take home.

Q. What about adults? What does the event offer them?

A. The Alpiners perform at noon, Laura Cote's School of Dance performs at 3 p.m. and the Invaders perform at 4 p.m. Also there will be crafts and other items for sale.

Q. What kinds of food and beverages will be for sale?

A. Funnel cakes, corn dogs, cheese fries, Polish sausage, fried veggies.

Q. Tell us about the volunteers and organizers who pull this together.

A. The parks and recreation department work with the street, police, Explorers and fire departments. They volunteer their time along with village employees and officials as well as residents.

Cost: Free for adults. $5 for unlimited pony rides, games and other activities for children. $2 to decorate a pumpkin.
