Dion gives Huntley the spark it needs to win
Trailing Jacobs 15-10 in the second game, Huntley needed some type of spark if it was going to win Game 2 and the match.
Red Raider sophomore libero Amy Dion gave Huntley the positive vibe it was looking for.
Serving 7 straight points including 2 aces, Dion's effort gave the Red Raiders a 17-15 lead Huntley, which won the first game 25-19, come back to win the decisive second game 25-22 in beating the Golden Eagles in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division girls volleyball action in Huntley Tuesday night.
"We were really struggling all night long and I knew I had get something going with my serve," said Dion. Coach J (Michelle Jakubowski) tells me where to serve and I was able to place my serve where I wanted. My floater was working. We had lost our intensity but we got our focus back and were able to win the game and match."
Dion finished the match with 11 service points. 3 aces and 13 digs.
"Amy got us going and we were able to win the game and match," said Jakubowski. "We struggled all night and we were frustrated at times, but we were able to come back and beat a good Jacobs team."
After Huntley (15-5, 3-2) took a 17-15 lead in Game 2, Jacobs (5-14, 1-4) regrouped and took the lead 22-21 on a kill by Taylor Lesner. Huntley come roaring back and scored the final 4 points including the game winner on a kill by Jillian Stock.
The Red Raiders also got solid efforts from Katherine Lowery (8 kills) and Taylor Neperman (6 kills).
Jacobs freshman Alyssa Ehrhardt paced the Golden Eagles with 8 kills, 2 aces, 7 digs and 2 blocks.
In Game 1, There were 8 lead changes and 5 ties before Huntley seized control at the end.
With the score tied at 18, the Red Raiders scored the final 7 straight points including the game-winning kill from Ashley Smith.
"We missed four key serves in the second game when we could have won and forced a third game," said Jacobs coach Lisa Dwyer. "We are a very young and we are going through some growing pains. I like the effort. We kept fighting. We need to
be a little more consistent."
