Mt. Prospect police commander completes FBI training

Mount Prospect Police Department Cmdr. John Gross graduated Sept. 18, 2009 from the F.B.I. National Academy Program at Quantico, Va.

The 238th session of the National Academy had men and women from 48 states, including members of law enforcement agencies from the District of Columbia, 21 countries, three military organizations, and three federal civilian organizations.

F.B.I. Director Robert Mueller was the principal speaker at the graduation ceremony.

The National Academy Program offers 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management and fitness training for selected officers. Fewer than 1 percent of all U.S. law enforcement officers are accepted to the F.B.I. National Academy. Commander Gross is only the fifth Mount Prospect official ever to attend.

Training is provided by the F.B.I. Academy instructional staff, Special Agents, and other Washington D.C. area university staff members, many of whom are recognized internationally in their fields.

Gross currently commands the afternoon patrol shift.

The Mount Prospect Police Department anticipates a variety of benefits from his attendance at this program, and many of the program's graduates go on to achieve a variety of senior leadership positions within their respective agencies.

"The department and the entire community can be proud of Commander Grossand his accomplishments," said Chief John Dahlberg.
