Fire damages vacant farmhouse in Woodstock
Investigators are attempting to determine how a early morning fire started at vacant farmhouse on Route 120 in Woodstock.
A passer-by reported the fire at 4:15 a.m. Friday, Woodstock Fire Chief Doug Erb said.
When firefighters arrived at 11202 W. Route 120, the vacant home was engulfed in flames. It took about an hour to get the fire under control, Erb said.
He added that their main focus was to make sure nothing else on the property caught fire. A couple small structures and open fields surround the farmhouse, Erb said.
At this point there is no obvious cause as to how the fire started. "There is no electric or gas going into the home," he said. The farmhouse has been vacant for five or six years.
Route 120 was closed for about an hour and a half while crews battled the blaze.
Wonder Lake Fire Department assisted in providing a tanker to bring in additional water as there was no fire hydrant near the farm.
