Kids' clothing sale

Western Avenue Elementary School's PTO will have a children's clothing and toy rummage sale from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday (no strollers or children younger than 10) and from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The school is at 1500 Western Ave., Geneva. For directions, visit geneva304.org/was. Sellers receive 60 percent of the purchase price, the PTO 40 percent.

Fire hydrant flush

Batavia is flushing fire hydrants to rid water pipes of sediment, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. this month and October. Flushing west of the Fox River is now through Oct. 2, east of the river will be flushed Oct. 5 to 16. Check water before washing clothes, as rusty water is possible.

Wasco Diamonds golf outing

The 7th Annual Wasco Diamonds golf outing is Friday at Tanna Farms Golf Club in Geneva. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Dinner is at 5 p.m. Cost is $150 per golfer. Contact Joe Garbarski at (630) 363-9775 or garbarski@wascodiamonds.com.

Aurora turns on cameras

Aurora's first red-light enforcement cameras are now operable at three intersections, launching a 30-day grace period for those who disregard red lights. Beginning Oct. 20, $100 fines will be mailed to motorists who enter the intersections after the light turns red. The cameras are recording traffic eastbound on New York Street at Farnsworth Avenue; heading both east and west at New York Street and Commons Drive; and going both north and south at Farnsworth and Molitor. All three intersections are on the police department's list of the top 30 crash sites.

Arboretum wins award

Lisle's Morton Arboretum has been honored by the Illinois Association of Museums for its outdoor "Animal Houses" exhibit featuring 11 human-scale animal dwellings. It was chosen from among 16 entries for three Superior Achievement Awards. The award will be presented Oct. 2 in Bloomington. The exhibit continues through Nov. 15 at the arboretum.
