Buffalo Grove community drug forum to focus on heroin

The Buffalo Grove School Safety Partnership, in conjunction with Buffalo Grove and Stevenson high schools and the Buffalo Grove and Lincolnshire police departments, are organizing a community forum on drug abuse for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The forum will be held in the theater at Buffalo Grove High School, 1100 W. Dundee Road.

The event is part of a regional effort to increase the awareness and understanding of drug activity and its consequences to parents of high school age students.

It will have specific emphasis on trends in heroin use and treatment options as overdoses of it and prescription drugs have become a widespread problem that creates serious personal, social and economic consequences for adolescents, their families and the community, the sponsors said.

This program will feature these presentations:

• Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, a regional drug task force.

•Families and Adolescents in Recovery Inc.

• Rosecrance Health Network.

• Student Assistance Program Coordinators from Buffalo Grove and Stevenson high schools.

This meeting will serve to alert parents and teens to the problem of drug abuse and educate them about recent trends in heroin use and treatment options.

People interested in attending should RSVP by e-mail to Buffalo Grove Police Cmdr. Steve Husak, shusak@vbg.org. More information is at vbg.org.
