Less green for greens:

The Batavia city services committee will discuss cutting back on Christmas decorations for the downtown at a meeting at 7:30 tonight in the first-floor city council chamber of the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave. It will also discuss a proposed burn to clear Braeburn Marsh of cattails and other debris, to improve stormwater flow in the area. Moms to meet:

Moms Connected, a program for mothers of adolescent and teenage children, will meet at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Geneva's West Campus, 3435 Keslinger Road. Flu shots in West Chicago:

Walgreens of West Chicago will offer seasonal flu shots from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at West Chicago Community High School, 326 Joliet St. The shot is free for those with Medicare Part B; $3 for anyone on Medicaid and older than 19; and $24.99 for those without insurance. To schedule an appointment, call the Walgreens' pharmacy at (630) 293-8951.

Wasco Diamonds golf outing:

The 7th Annual Wasco Diamonds golf outing is Friday at Tanna Farms Golf Club in Geneva. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Dinner is at 5 p.m. Cost is $150 per golfer. Trunk sale in St. Charles:

The second annual Trunk Sale at Bethlehem Lutheran Church will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 1145 N. 5th Ave., St. Charles. Book-signing Sunday:

Plainfield writer Tom Hernandez will read from and sign copies of his book, "Chocolate Cows and Purple Cheese" at 2 p.m. Sunday at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. The book is a collection of 70 essays that he wrote over the last 11 years. It was published in April by IUniverse. Hernandez, the former director of communications for St. Charles School District 303, writes about "life, in all of its myriad facets - family, marriage, parenting, faith, politics - can be funny, frustrating and fulfilling."
