Schaumburg runners double-dip at Detweiller

Schaumburg doubled its pleasure at the Peoria Notre Dame Invite at Detweiller Park on Saturday.

Junior Britten Petrey took first for the girls finishing in 17:11, five seconds in front of Whitney Youngs Lavinia Jurkiewicz (17:16).

And senior Pat Lesiewicz took the title for the boys in 14:25, ten seconds in front of Loyola's Nico Composto (14:35).

Lesiewicz time was the second best time for a Saxon boy runner at Detweiller, the state course, since 1973.

"He ran a control race and pulled away in the final mile," added Schaumburg boys coach Jim Macnider of Lesiewicz who finished 13th at state last season.

Junior Sarah MacIntosh (17:19) and senior Ruth Allen (17:50) finished 4th and 18th to lead No. 1 ranked Palatine to the girl's team title with 115 points.

Petrey was joined by Karen Lesiewicz (17:37) and Colette Falsey (17:46) who took 10th and 14th leading Schaumburg to second with 125 points.

Alec Bollman (15:04) and Chano Bernardo (15:08) took 16th and 19th place leading the Palatine boys to second place with 133 points, Loyola captured the title on the boy's side with 79 points. Jeff Larson added (15:15) added a 24th place for the Pirates.

Schaumburg took 11th place for the boys with Connor Prizy taking 32nd place.

Barrington's Chris Cogwell (15:09) took 20th place for the Broncos.

Minooka Flight Invite: No. 2 Hoffman girls kept on rolling on Saturday at Minooka.

The Hawks swept all seven races of the flight race in securing the victory with an impressive 7 points. Each of Hoffman runners set flight records for each race.

Melissa Schmidt set the tone by winning the first flight in 17:35. Other winners included Haley Goers (18:14), Hannah Worman (18:45), Haley Worman (18:50), Takshaka Patel (19:07), Deedee Delahunt (19:40), and Grace Watkins ( 19:30).

"The girls are getting stronger each race," added Hoffman coach Kirk Macnider of his teams victory, "The results speak for themselves."
