Scouting: Streamwood @ Lake Park

Streamwood (1-2, 0-1) at Lake Park (2-1, 1-0)

When: today at 7:30 p.m.

Last year: Lake Park 42, Streamwood 7

Last week: St. Charles East 41, Streamwood 7; Lake Park 27, Larkin 18

Outlook: The Sabres attempt to regroup from last week's one-sided loss to St. Charles East in this Upstate Eight Conference game in Roselle. Streamwood stayed with the bigger Saints last week into the second quarter, when sophomore quarterback Dalton Lundeen connected with senior Matt Woods for a 30-yard touchdown pass to knot the score at 7-7 with Dion Banda's point after. However, 2 blocked punts - one of which was recovered for a touchdown, the other recovered at the Sabres' 12-yard line - led to 21 second-quarter points for St. Charles East. On one of those blocked punts, the Sabres had only 10 men on the field, a mental lapse the team can't afford. "Some frustrating mental lapses on our part in about a 3 and a half minute span of the second quarter really took us out of the ballgame," Streamwood coach Cal Cummins said. "We amounted some good yardage on them, but we had inopportune penalties that kept shutting us down. Not to take anything away from (St. Charles East), but we were our own worst enemy at times." The going will be tough against Lake Park, which rallied from an 18-7 deficit to Larkin at the half with 20 unanswered points. The Lancers have a stout corps of linebackers, led by three-year starter Ryan Gerts. "They've got some real strength defensively with their linebackers, who cover up quite well," Cummins said. "They're pretty solid and don't appear to hurt themselves a whole lot."
