Arlington Heights
• Thieves stole a white smart card machine valued at $5,000 out of a laundry room in an apartment building on the 300 block of Seegers Road between midnight and 12:30 p.m. Sept. 12. Cash in the machine was estimated between $2,000 and $4,000.
• Burglars stole two laptop computers and a GPS unit valued at $2,900 out of a 2000 BMW Diman 5 on the 400 block of South Phelps Avenue between 6 p.m. Sept. 11 and 8:45 a.m. Sept. 12.
• Thieves stole a white gold and diamond wedding band valued at $1,000 out of a jewelry box in an apartment on the 0-100 block of South Vail Avenue between Sept. 1 and 9.
• Burglars broke into a 2006 Mitsubishi coupe on the 900 block of South McKinley Avenue between 11 p.m. Sept. 11 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 12 and stole the in-dash stereo, two subwoofer speakers and an amplifier valued at $900.
• Thieves stole two concrete dog statues valued at $400 from a porch at a home on the 800 block of North Arlington Heights Road between 10:30 p.m. Sept. 11 and 6:30 a.m. Sept. 12.
• Burglars broke into a 2001 Mazda Tribute at Nichol Knoll Park, 3704 N. Kennicott, between 4:45 and 5:14 p.m. Sept. 13 and stole a purse with $60 in cash. Someone used a debit card in the purse twice for a loss of $500.
• Burglars stole a wallet and three pairs of sunglasses valued at $850 out of an unlocked 2002 Ford Explorer in a condominium lot on the 1100 block of South New Wilke Road between 7 p.m. Sept. 9 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 10.
•Thieves stole a women's dark purple mountain bike valued at $300 locked in a bike rack at Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave., between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m. Sept. 13.
• Burglars stole a set of golf clubs, garden tools and six tennis rackets out of an unlocked garage on the 300 block of South Derbyshire between Sept. 6 and 13.
• Burglars stole a set of golf clubs and an iPod docking station in a 2009 Hond Civic on the 300 block of South Stratford Road between 6 p.m. Sept. 11 and 8:45 a.m. Sept. 12.
• Burglars stole a GPS valued at $180 out of a 1994 Nissan 300Z at Arlington Nissan, 1100 W. Dundee Road, between 10 a.m. and 4:13 p.m. Sept. 10.
•Burglars stole an iPod valued at $200 and a wallet out of an open 2009 Jeep Wrangler in an apartment lot on the 4100 block of Bloomington Avenue between 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12 and 7 a.m. Sept. 13.
• Three teenage boys broke the passenger's-side sliding-door handle on a 1994 Dodge Caravan in a townhouse lot on the 700 block of East Golf Road around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 13, then fled when a security guard confronted them.
Buffalo Grove
• Thieves entered a vehicle trailer in the 500 block of Beechwood Road between Sept. 7-13 and removed two parachutes valued at $12,000.
• Burglars entered an unlocked vehicle on Wellington Court South overnight Sept. 9 and took cash from the center console and from a purse.
• A resident on Bayberry Drive reported that after a cleaning crew of five left his home Sept. 3, he found that $1,000 missing from his pants pocket in an upstairs bathroom. The resident spoke with the owner of the cleaning company who stated that there was a new person in the crew and she has not shown up for work since.
• Burglars entered a home in the 1-100 block of Wakefield Lane on Sept. 4 through a forced side door. and took jewelry.
• Thieves removed the navigation system from the glove box of a vehicle on the 200 block of Mohawk Trail overnight Sept. 6. There were no signs of forced entry.
Criminal Damage to Vehicle
• Someone scratched a vehicle parked outside a restaurant at 85 South Buffalo Grove Road and removed the license plates the evening of Sept. 7.
• Vandals shattered the rear cargo window of a vehicle in the 0-100 block of Oak Creek Drive between Sept. 11-14.
• Someone placed five unauthorized charges totaling $582 on a debit card of a resident in the 900 block of Crofton Lane between Sept. 4-8.
Des Plaines
• Thieves stole a boys' white BMX bike with blue decals valued at $277 locked into a bike rack at the Des Plaines Library, 1501 Ellinwood Ave., Sept. 13 around 2 p.m.
• A woman was seen on a security tape grabbing a cell phone valued at $350 after a male customer left it on a customer service counter at Sam's Club, 101 W. Oakton St., around 5:15 p.m. Sept. 14.
Elk Grove Village
• Vandals put sugar into the gas tanks of two company trucks at Kemco Trucking, 1810 Estes Ave., overnight Aug. 30, doing $3,600 damage.
• Thieves stole batteries worth $600 from a truck parked in a hotel lot at 100 S. Busse Road overnight Sept. 10.
90 Biesterfield Rd.
• Vandals wrote graffiti the evening of Sept. 10 on the walls and tile in the men's bathroom at Panera Bread Co., 90 Biesterfield Road, doing $500 damage.
• Thieves took a pallet of foil dinner trays worth $600 from a trailer in the 2200 block of Busse Road Sept. 11.
• Thieves took numerous pieces of railroad material worth $5,250 from a storage area of Chicago Terminal, 2511 Pratt Blvd., overnight Sept. 10
• Thieves took the spare tire from underneath a 2004 Lexus Sept. 4-6 in the 800 block of Cardinal Lane, scraping the bumper, for a loss of $2,000.
700 Block of Winston Dr.
• Burglars broke the door handle and door frame at a business in the 700 block of Winston Drive the evening of Sept. 14, setting off an alarm but doing $3,250 in damage.
• Isaac Lopez-Villafana, 25, of the 800 block of Racine Circle, Elk Grove Village, was arrested Sept. 12 at the Kenneth Young Center parking lot and charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. His court date is Oct. 5.
• Jessica A. Aguado, 30, of the 2900 block of North 72nd Court, Elmwood Park, was arrested Sept. 12 at 901 Meacham Road and charged with retail theft. Her court date is Oct. 1.
Mount Prospect
• Lashawna S. Thomas, 20, of the 1900 block of South Third Avenue, Maywood, was arrested around 12:05 a.m. Sept. 8 at Walmart, 930 Mount Prospect Plaza, Rand and Central roads, and charged with three counts of felony theft. Reports said employee Thomas stole two cell phones and three iPods worth $1,330 between Sept. 4 and 6, removing packaging and hiding them in her pants waistband. Her court date is Sept. 30.
• Burglars removed the front door knob to gain entry and stole a pressure pump valued at $600 out of the basement of a vacant home on the 100 block of South Albert Street between Sept. 3 and 11.
• Burglars stole a GPS unit and a pair of gym shoes valued at $650 out of an unlocked 2004 GMC Yukon on the 600 block of North Russel Street between 11:30 a.m. Sept. 11 and 6:30 a.m. Sept. 12.
Rolling Meadows
• Young E. Kim, 26, of the 400 block of East South Water Street, Chicago, was arrested Sept 5 near Algonquin Road and Meijer Drive charged with driving under the influence, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and improper lane usage. Her next court date is Sept. 25.
• Horacio Lopez, 21, of the 2200 block of Algonquin Parkway, Rolling Meadows, was arrested Sept. 6 and charged with two counts of criminal damage to property. A 1998 tan Chevrolet Cavalier and a 1991 blue Chevrolet Cavalier in the 2200 block of Algonquin Parkway were scratched along the sides around 4 a.m., causing approximately $300 damage to each vehicle. Reports said a witness saw Lopez causing the damage.
• Kurt M. Smentek, 41, of the 2800 block of Grove Lane, Northbrook, was arrested Aug. 31 at Walmart, 1460 Golf Road, and charged with retail theft and resisting a peace officer. Reports said Smentek took miscellaneous items and left the store, refusing to cooperate with store security and struggling with an off-duty Cook County sheriff's deputy who stopped to help. His court date is Sept. 22.
• Burglars smashed the front passenger window, damage $150, to a white 2000 Ford American Taxi that was parked outside Saratoga Apartments, 5400 Astor Lane, and removed a Garmin brand GPS worth $700 and a dispatching mobile computer worth $900, Sept. 3-4.
• Vandals smashed the front, passenger window of a 2004 silver Mitsubishi Lancer parked Sept. 5-6 outside a residence in the 2300 block of Algonquin Road, doing $200 damage.
• Thieves forced open a front door and removed four $100 bills from a bedroom Sept. 8 in the 2900 block of Wilke Road.
• A thief removed $92 Sept. 3 from a wallet hidden under some gloves at a work station at Electrodynamics, 1200 Hicks Road.
Wheeling
• Thieves stole 31 rolls of copper wire valued at $3,000 from a construction site at 335 S. Milwaukee Ave. between 4:30 p.m. Sept. 8 and 6 a.m. Sept. 9. Labor cost to replace the wiring was estimated at $6,000.
• Vandals spray painted gang graffiti on a fence on the 400 block of McHenry Road between midnight and 6 a.m. Sept. 8.
•Burglars stole the stereo faceplate out of a 1994 Honda Civic on the 800 block of Corey Lane between midnight and 7 a.m. Sept. 8.
• Vandals shot BB-gun pellets into a glass storm door at a home on the 500 block of Surf Court between 7 p.m. Sept. 8 and 5:28 p.m. Sept. 9. Damage was estimated at $300.
