Outlook Memories remain from Montini's 2008 playoff ouster at the hand of the Spartans. "I'm sure some of the guys on the team, having their dreams crushed, it's hard to get over something like that," said Montini coach Chris Andriano. "Crushed" can't describe a Week 3 loss, but St. Francis definitely wants to regroup after Marmion collected 4 turnovers and held the Spartans to 96 yards rushing, about 15 percent of their 675-yard season total. Bob Miller ran hard, Tony Vargyas ran and caught 104 yards' worth, but the Spartans lacked the big play that's been a calling card in the Greg Purnell era. Another, the 3-5 defense, was decent in holding Marmion to 231 total yards. Linebacker-fullback Colin Marshall and quarterback Collin O'Donnell both got banged up last week, but Spartans coach Purnell said both will face Montini. St. Francis will need all hands to defend Broncos quarterback Brandon Pechloff, who completed 24 of 31 passes for 383 yards and 5 touchdowns in three quarters vs. D.C. Weston. Jordan Westerkamp caught 6 passes for 212 yards with 3 touchdowns, including a 99-yarder to tie an IHSA record. Driscoll transfer Nick Campanella had an 11-catch game in his Broncos breakout. Linebacker Alex Walters, defensive tackle Ross Ferraro look to force St. Francis to the air.
Next week Wheaton Academy at St. Francis; Aurora Christian at Montini.
