Metra credit card celebration:
State Sen. Michael Bond along with the Midwest High Speed Rail Association is hosting an event Thursday, Sept. 17, at 5:30 p.m. in celebration of Bond's legislation that now requires Metra to allow credit card ticket purchases online. The bill also requires the largest stations to take credit cards effective early next year. The free event will take place at the Byron Colby Barn, 1561 Jones Point Road in Grayslake. Refreshments will be served.
New village plan in works:
As Mundelein officials develop a new comprehensive plan that would guide future development, they're scheduling two public workshops. The first is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 20. The second is set for 7:30 a.m. Oct. 21. Both events will be at the main fire station, 1000 N. Midlothian Road. Feedback will be used to develop the plan. Student logs 18,235 pages:
In the friendly Top Ten Reader competition of the library's summer reading program, Victoria Hernandez, a fifth-grade student at B.J. Hooper Elementary School, topped the list at 18,235 pages, Lake Villa District Library officials said. Catherine Dudek of Palombi Middle school came in second place with 16,274 and Regan Penn of Oakland School ranked third with 16,274 pages.
