Cary man gets probation for stabbing outside bar

A 22-year-old Cary man was sentenced Wednesday to two years probation, the first few months of it on electronic monitoring, for stabbing a Barrington man during a 2008 brawl outside a Cary tavern.

Evan L. Hall, of the 100 block of River Drive, also received a six-month sentence in the McHenry County jail, but that is time already served since being charged.

Hall pleaded guilty to aggravated battery last month in connection with the Nov. 1 fight in the 200 block of East Main Street in Cary. During the fracas, police said, Hall stabbed a 25-year-old Barrington man in the left side of his torso, leaving a three- to four-inch cut.

The sentence, part of a negotiated settlement approved Wednesday by McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather, also covers a felony criminal damage to property charge stemming from an April 5 incident in which police said Hall damaged a door window and screen while trespassing at a Crystal Lake home.

Hall must also pay a $500 fine and turn over $4,500 in restitution to the victims of the two incidents.
