School seeks veterans

Hampshire High School is seeking the names of local veterans for the school's celebration of Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The goal of the event, "Honoring the Veterans of Hampshire," is to provide students with a better understanding of veterans' contributions. The Community Unit District 300 school board voted this year to hold classes on Veterans Day. Board members said students could learn more about veterans from presentations and classes than they could staying home. Call (847) 792-3500 for more information.

Swine flu and you

The McHenry County Department of Health has a call center and Web page for those who need more information about the swing flu outbreak, symptoms and prevention. The phone number is (815) 334-4510, and the Web site is mcdh.info. The department will mail out similar information later this fall. People can also call Centegra Health System for more information at (815) 236-8347.

Mobile food pantry in Crystal Lake

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church will sponsor a mobile food pantry from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in the parking lot at 1023 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake. This traveling food pantry will be filled with meat, produce and nonperishable food. There will be enough food to feed up to 300 families. Anyone needing assistance is welcome.
