Huntley dumps Grayslake North

Three-headed monsters are usually found in movies or comic books. Friday night in Huntley, the monster appeared and made the night unpleasant for the Woodstock North Thunder.

Red Raider quarterbacks Brandon Luczak and Tim Lycos, and running back Brett Kleckner combined for all but one of its team's touchdowns.

Senior Nick Davila started the scoring early by returning the opening kickoff for a quick 6 points. The Huntley defense forced a 3 and out on the Thunder's first possession giving the offense good field positon deep in Woodstock North territory.

Two carries from Kleckner led to a 13-yard touchdown run, and the defense forced another 3 and out. The next possession for the Raiders yielded the same results. Kleckner took a handoff up the middle, broke a few tackles and 30 yards later he was in the end zone with his second touchdown run of the game as the Red Raiders went on to a 47-7 win.

"I just wanted to keep my feet moving," Kleckner said.

Kleckner did just that, gaining the majority of his 85 yards after first contact.

"I have to give the offensive line the applause," he said, "If it wasn't for the line, I couldn't have done it."

Lycos got in on the action on the next possesion hooking up with junior wide receiver Nick Kostalek on a 38-yard fade down the right sideline for a touchdown. Luczak answered Lycos' touchdown pass with one of his onw. On the next set of downs for Huntley, rolling to his right, Luczak connected with Joe Muren, who ran over a defender to get into the end zone for a 34-yard touchdown. Luczak would later score on a keeper from 2 yards out and on a 37-yard run in the fourth quarter.

"We didn't try to do too much," Kleckner said," we kept it simple."

Lost in the blowout victory Friday night was the lack of discipline shown at times by the Red Raiders (3-0). Five penalties at bad times, including a personal foul after a stop on third and goal with only seconds remaing in the half leading to the Thunder's lone touchdown.

Head coach Steve Graves was happy with the victory but upset with the penalties, specifically on the offensive side of the ball.

"They knocked themselves out of drives with the penalties," he said.

With such a lead, Graves was able to get a lot of guys into the game for experience.

"We rotate a lot of guys all over," he said."People only notice the quarterbacks, but it's everybody."
