Teen charged with attempted murder in Streamwood shooting
A 17-year-old from Hanover Park appeared in Rolling Meadows bond court Friday after being charged with attempted murder in connection with Sunday's shooting of another teen in Streamwood, officials said.
Adolfo Perez, of the 1600 block of Sycamore Avenue, was arrested Wednesday and charged late Thursday with attempted murder, Streamwood Deputy Police Chief James Gremo said.
Jess Outlaw, 17, a Streamwood High School student, was shot twice while riding his bicycle near McKool and Miller avenues, police said. He was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, then transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. He remains there in stable condition.
The wounds, one to the spine and the other to the left shoulder, have left Outlaw's legs paralyzed, his mother said, but doctors have told him he'll walk again.
The victim was with friends shortly before 11 p.m. when another youth approached him on a bike and fired a chrome revolver three times, police said. The youth was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a mask similar to what the villain sported in the "Scream" movies, police said.
The shooting has raised concerns about whether Streamwood has enough police to deal with violent crimes. Gremo pointed out his department has a full-time tactical unit devoted to gang-related issues consisting of a sergeant and four other tactical police officers. He declined to say, however, if this shooting is believed to be gang-related.
