Schaumburg fest a smash hit with residents and visitors alike

The Passaro family's summer calendar is chock-full of festivals and celebrations across the suburbs, but the Schaumburg residents say no other event comes close to their hometown's Septemberfest.

The 39th annual festival capped off the Labor Day weekend Monday at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court, with a parade, carnival, food and art fair.

"We have been to different summer festivals every year and Schaumburg is always the favorite," Pam Passaro said. "It has the best rides and games for the kids and the grounds are the nicest."

The parade along Summit Drive from Wise Road to Stockport Lane was a treat for Joey Passaro, 5, and Julia Passaro, 2, their father Joe Passaro said.

"Everyone in the parade threw out candy, and that was a lot of good fun for the kids," Joe Passaro said.

"There is also great food and you can't beat the atmosphere."

Pam Passaro said Septemberfest was a summer favorite growing up, but having a family makes the event much more memorable.

"It is so much more fun when you have kids," Pam Passaro said. "We are mostly here for the rides and games. There's a good variety of rides, so the kids can enjoy it for years to come."

While the Passaro family may exhibit bias, Septemberfest first-timers and those from out of town also gave the festival high marks.

"This is our first time here," said Laura Moore, of Rushville, Ill., who was in town with her husband James Moore, visiting relatives. "It has been great. There is lots to do and the grandchildren love it."
