District 46 forum tonight

Grayslake Elementary District 46 hosts a community forum at 6 p.m. today, with finance and the 2009-10 proposed budget as the featured topics. The informal meeting will be at Grayslake Middle School on Library Lane just west of Route 83. More than 80 people attended the first community forum at the middle school in June. Several parents pushed for periodic, casual forums so they can ask questions and receive immediate answers from District 46's elected board members and administrators. Such give-and-take typically is not allowed at suburban school board meetings. About 30 to 45 minutes will be allotted for audience questions toward the end of tonight's forum.

Antioch library movie night

Teens can celebrate Banned Book Week by watching a movie based on a banned book. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone will be shown at 6 p.m. on Sept. 28. Snacks will be provided. To register or for more information contact the library at (847)-395-0874 or visit apld.info. The library is at 757 Main St.

Meet the superintendent

Hawthorn Elementary District 73 Superintendent Sue Zook invited parents to a meet and greet coffee at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at the district office, 841 West End Court, Vernon Hills. The informal meeting offers parents an opportunity to gain firsthand information about Zook's vision and philosophy on education. Parents also are encouraged to contact Zook at her direct line, (847) 990-4244 or zooks@hawthorn73.org. Informational podcasts will be posted at www.hawthorn73.org later this fall.
