Wheaton cops hunt suspect who approached boy at pool

Wheaton police are searching for a man involved in an apparent attempted child abduction that occurred last week, authorities said Friday.

Deputy Chief Tom Meloni said in a statement that a 14-year-old boy was at the Rice Lake Pool and Water Park about 6 p.m. Aug. 25 when the suspect approached and started a conversation. The man asked the boy if he would like to come home with him.

Meloni said the boy refused and rode safely home on his bicycle. According to Meloni, the suspect also talked to the boy about religion.

Police said the suspect is described as a tall, thin white man who is 50 to 55 years old with wavy black hair. He was wearing a green shirt, tan shorts, and black and white shoes.

Detectives are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Meloni at (630) 260-4862.
