Here she comes, Miss Septemberfest
At noon today, someone will be named to reign as Miss Septemberfest during this weekend's festival.
All five finalists will be members of Miss Septemberfest's court in Monday's parade and will introduce musical acts throughout the festival.
Finalists, who must live in the village and be age 16 to 19, were selected from among 26 girls interviewed and judged on poise, character, community involvement and knowledge of Schaumburg.
The finalists, all of whom are strongly involved in their schools and community, are Emily Saban, 17, a St. Viator High School senior; Natalie Bryeans, 17, a Conant High School senior; Karen Lesiewicz, 16, a Schaumburg High School junior; and Tatum Byrd and Jessica Faleni, both 17 and Schaumburg High seniors.
The Miss Septemberfest program is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates, and the winner will be named at its luncheon at Poplar Creek Country Club in Hoffman Estates.
The rotary provides a $500 scholarship to the winner and $250 scholarships to the other court members. The community group Sons and Daughters of Italy also matches this donation. The village of Schaumburg also presents each girl with a savings bond, trophy, flowers and a sash for the festival.
