Religious artifacts stolen from Lisle church

An 18th-century brass reliquary valued around $10,000 has been stolen from a Lisle church, police said Thursday.

The reliquary, which police said came from France, was reported missing Aug. 30 from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 820 Division St.

A reliquary traditionally contains the physical remains of saints such as bones or pieces of clothing. Sgt. Randall Johnson said he is unsure what is in the St. Joan of Arc container, but police believe it does hold religious artifacts.

Johnson said there were no signs of forced entry at the church and police have no suspects.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Lisle police at (630) 271-4200.
