Stroger to speak in Park Ridge:
Cook County Board President, Todd Stroger will host a town-hall meeting for area residents at The Summit of Uptown 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29. The event is open to the public, but seating is limited to the first 100 persons. Stroger's presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The newly renovated retirement community is located at 10 N. Summit Ave., Park Ridge. Parking is available in the library lot across the street and in the underground facility next door. State and local officials from Maine Township, Park Ridge and surrounding communities, and representatives of local chambers of commerce are expected to attend. Palatine hosts prostate event:
The village of Palatine's Board of Health hosts a free public event, "Coaching Men's Health - Learn How to Improve Your Prostate Scorecard," from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at village hall, 200 E. Wood St. A prostate cancer survivor will discuss his experience, the manager of men's health services at the Wellness Place will provide nutrition tips; and a prostate health specialist at Northwest Community Hospital will review prostate health and wellness services. Wheeling parks get award:
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded the Wheeling Park District its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting, the group said.
