Suicide group to meet:
Attempters' of Suicide support group meets from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Stone Manor, 528 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31), Batavia. It is sponsored by Suicide Prevention Services. Call (630) 482-9696, or visit spsfv.org.
Safety check on Route 59:
DuPage County sheriff's deputies and West Chicago police will conduct their third roadside safety check of the year Friday along Route 59 near the West Chicago VFW hall. Motorists stopped at the checkpoint will be asked to provide their driver's license and proof of insurance. Officers also will be on the lookout for impaired motorists.
Batavia half-marathon:
The second annual Foot Mechanics Half Madness 13.1-mile half-marathon is Sunday in Batavia. The race starts and finishes along the Fox River. Wasco Diamonds golf outing:
The 7th Annual Wasco Diamonds golf outing is Sept. 25 at Tanna Farms Golf Club in Geneva. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Dinner is at 5 p.m. Cost is $150 per golfer.
