Two charged in Aurora robbery that may have sparked fatal shooting
Prosecutors have charged two men with an armed robbery police believe may have led to the Aug. 26 shooting death of a 36-year-old Aurora man on the city's far east side.
Antonio L. Clark, 20, of the 1100 block of Brockton Court, Aurora, and Michael Costner, 22, of the 9300 block of South Burnside Avenue, Chicago, have been charged with the armed robbery of Gregory L. Riley, 36, of the 0-99 block of South Stolp Avenue.
Clark and his brother, Ivory S. Clark, 24, of the 1100 block of Brockton Court, also are charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.
Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said charges against all three are expected to be updated as the investigation progresses.
Aurora police arrested both Clarks just before midnight the night of the shooting after investigators stopped the car they were riding in for several traffic violations.
When officers approached, Ferrelli said, they smelled cannabis coming from inside the vehicle and found about three pounds of cannabis under the hood of the vehicle and a small amount inside the passenger compartment.
While investigating the traffic stop, police learned that Antonio Clark and Costner met Riley in the 1100 block of Brunswick Lane under the guise of purchasing marijuana from him.
It was during the transaction that police believe Riley was killed, although no one has been charged with the slaying.
Costner was arrested without incident late Friday at his home.
Detectives are awaiting forensics results on evidence that is being processed at the DuPage County Crime Lab.
