Palatine police take home bragging rights

The Palatine Police and Fire Benevolent Association held its sixth annual Charity Softball Tournament on Aug. 22 at Birchwood Park in Palatine. Fourteen teams came to the event representing a variety of area fire and police departments.

More than 200 people came, and the event raised more than $7,000 that will be given to local charities, local families in need, as well as area firefighters and police officers who have fallen, been injured or are suffering some other form of tragedy.

The Palatine Police Department team was able to defend its title, winning the tournament for the second straight year, in a toughly contested battle over the Elk Grove Township Fire Department team in the championship game.

The Palatine Police and Fire Benevolent Association is an organization of Palatine police officers and firefighters that raises money in order to give back to the community it serves. To date it has provided in excess of $10,000 in assistance.

The association appreciates the support from the Palatine Park District, the village of Palatine, City Beverage, GFS and George's Wine and Spirits.
