Driver who struck, dragged toddler had no license
The driver who struck and dragged a 3-year-old Fox Lake child for 200 feet has not been allowed to legally operate a motor vehicle for the previous five years, officials said.
Pamela Simone, 36, was driving on a revoked drivers license at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 when she backed over the child on Arlington Drive in the Eagle Point subdivision.
Simone's license had been revoked since being charged with driving on a suspended license four times between November 2004 and February 2005, officials from the Illinois Secretary of State's Office said.
She is in DuPage County jail for failing to appear in court to answer charges of domestic battery in 2005 and felony obstruction of justice in 2006.
Fox Lake Police Chief Mike Behan said charges in last week's accident will be filed against Simone when the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County finishes its investigation. The little girl is improving, but is in serious condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Doctors expect her to make a full recovery, Behan added.
The accident occurred when Simone backed her 1999 Dodge Intrepid out of her driveway and struck the child who was playing on the side of the road, police said. The toddler became wedged under the car and was dragged before neighbors and witnesses got the car to stop. The neighbors helped rescue the child from under the car.
