Des Plaines
• Terrell D. Horton, 19, of the 2400 block of West Artesian Street, Chicago, and Jose A. Guarneros, 21, of the 0-100 block of West Shakespeare, Chicago, were arrested around 10:45 p.m. Aug. 22 on the 100 block of North River Road. Reports said they tried to steal a 1993 Ford Escort in a Holy Family Hospital parking lot, 150 N. River Road, but crashed the car into tall bushes and tried to flee. They also had burglarized a car in the parking lot and a 2000 Toyota Camry in a lot at Maryville Academy, 1150 N. River Road, the reports said. Witnesses phoned police and officers stopped them. Horton was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and two counts of burglary to vehicle. Guarneros was charged with two counts of burglary to vehicle and criminal trespass to vehicle.
• Vincent Lavance Brooks, 19, last known address on the 1800 block of Lamar, Evanston, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. Aug. 25 at the Metra depot, 1501 Miner St., and charged with criminal defacement after he scratched gang graffiti on a garbage can enclosure. His court date is Oct. 5.
• Richard L. Torrence, 35, of the 9400 block of Bay Colony Drive, Des Plaines, was arrested around 2:10 a.m. Aug. 25 during a traffic stop on the 1600 block of South River Road and charged with possession of marijuana, driving under the influence of drugs, and traffic violations. His court date is Sept. 21.
Elk Grove
• Thieves took a Vanguard 53-foot trailer containing ink cartridges from a lot in the 2200 block of Arthur Avenue Aug. 22-24. The loss was $120,000.
• Vandals put gouge marks in the double slide and the spring toy at Appleseed Park, 400 Ridge, Aug. 23-24, doing $1,150 damage.
Mount Prospect
• A man removed a window screen and broke the window at a first-floor apartment on the 500 block of West Dempster Street around 9:55 a.m. Aug. 21. He left when he saw a woman on a balcony watching him. He was described as a black male in his 20s, wearing a red hat, dark shirt, and dark pants. Three other men broke a the same window around 11:30 a.m. Aug. 21 but left when they saw another woman looking out her sliding glass patio door. The men walked then tried to get in the front door, walked back to the window, then fled when they saw the woman still watching. One man was described as a black male in his early 20s, slim build, mustache, and wearing black pants and shirt. The second man was described as a black male in his mid-20s, husky build and wearing black pants and shirt. The third offender was described as a black male, 18-20 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, husky build and wearing a black shirt with white lettering.
