Mentors sought in Mount Prospect

Volunteer orientation for the Mount Prospect school student mentor program will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the village hall, 50 South Emerson St.

The village Human Services Department coordinates the 16-year-old program, which works with River Trails Elementary District 26 and Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59.

Volunteers meet one night per week at a local school. A minimum of 10-week commitment is required.

Elk Grove approves salt purchase

The Elk Grove village board last week approved spending $253,560 for 4,000 tons salt at a price of $63.39 a ton through the state joint purchasing agreement.

The board also sent to the plan commission for review a zoning request to allow CenterPoint Properties to demolish an existing structure at 1400 Busse Road, redeveloping 4.4 acres as an industrial/office warehouse and leaving 1.7 acres for future retail development.
