Schaumburg Mayor's Aviation Celebration takes off this weekend

Find out how much fun an airport can be when there's no chance of delays.

Mayor Al Larson's Aviation Celebration will be held Aug. 29-30 at the Schaumburg Regional Airport, 905 W. Irving Park Road.

The two-day event will raise money for the not-for-profit Woodfield Area Children's Organization.

Admission is $8 each day, except for kids 5 and under who are free. Airplane, helicopter and pony rides carry an extra fee.

The event is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 29 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 30.

In addition to airplane and helicopter displays, children will be entertained with moonwalks, magicians, puppet shows, games, face painting and pony rides.

There also will be performances by Schaumburg High School's drumline and Orchesis dance team and Conant High School's varsity cheerleaders.

The car show, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29, is presented by Black Dog Promotions.

Other presenters at the event are Pilot Pete's restaurant, Village Tavern & Grill and Northwest Flyers.

For more information, call Pilot Pete's at (847) 891-5100 or buy advance tickets for only $7 through Aug. 28 at pilotpetes.com.

Another fundraiser for the Woodfield Area Children's Organization going on 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 30 is the annual Charity Car Show at Alumni Club, 871 E. Algonquin Road in Schaumburg.

Admission to the Charity Car Show is free. Money is raised by those entering their cars and competing for trophies.
