Hospital benefit walkathon:
BAPS Charities' Chicago chapter's seventh annual walkathon on Saturday at Pottawatomie Park in St. Charles will benefit Adventist Glen-Oaks Hospital in Glendale Heights. This year's walkathon theme is "Building a Better Community, One Step at a Time." Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. and the walkathon starts at 9:30 a.m.
Wheaton Academy dedication:
Wheaton Academy in West Chicago will dedicate $9 million worth of new athletic facilities today in the form of the Heritage Field House, the Hanson-Lindop Memorial Atrium Building, and a renovated Warrior Dome. The ceremony is open to the public and begins at 10 a.m. at 900 Prince Crossing Road. The school broke ground on the Heritage Field House in May 2008. The building is roughly 38,000 square feet and houses practice courts, locker rooms, a fitness facility, classrooms and offices. The Hanson-Lindop Memorial Atrium Building and the renovation of the Warrior Dome, the Academy's pre-existing gym built in 1948, were completed this summer.
Buckle up in West Chicago:
The West Chicago Police Department began its fifth seat-belt safety campaign Friday. The campaign, funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, will run through Sept. 7. An earlier campaign that ran from June 19 to July 6 resulted in 246 citations for seat belt and child restraint violations.
Family golf nights:
Orchard Valley Golf Course in Aurora will have its final "Family Golf Night" on Monday to provide golfing opportunities for parents and children at reduced rates. Tee times are available beginning at 5:30 p.m. A family of four can play for $40, a family of three for $35, and a family of two for $30. Carts are available at reduced rates. Motorcycles for Marklund:
Marklund is hosting a fundraising Motorcycle Run at 9 a.m. Aug. 29 at the Mill Creek campus, 1S450 Wyatt Drive, Geneva. Cost is $15 per driver, $10 per passenger. Drivers must be at least 18.
