Making mountains out of molehills
In the Aug. 11 Daily Herald, columnist Rubin Navarette begins his column "If you think it's embarrassing for an African-American to identify himself to the police while in his own home..."
I would like to know what is embarrassing about the request. The police were at Professor Gates' home in response to a possible burglary in process complaint. The police knock on the door, and a person unknown to the police answers the door. Of course, the police ask for identification. There is nothing embarrassing about that.
The homeowner should be pleased the neighborhood is alert, and that the police respond quickly. If the police simply showed up at someone's door and asked for identification with no justification, that would not be embarrassing but would be infuriating. I am so tired of the bleeding heart liberals that look for incidents to build mountains out of molehills. This only serves to diminish cases where there is an actual reason for concern.
