One killed, one injured in ATV crash near Cary
One man was killed and another was injured Sunday morning after an all-terrain vehicle plowed into a tree near Cary, police said.
Scott L. Hull, 28, of the 500 block of Cove Drive in Cary, was pronounced dead at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
The vehicle's owner, Cary resident James W. Kalal, 26, remained in good condition at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Both men were riding together on the ATV, but police don't know which one was driving.
It is illegal to drive ATVs on McHenry County roads, as their use is restricted to private property, police said.
According to a news release, the Cary Fire Protection District and officers from Cary and the McHenry County Sheriff's Office arrived at the crash site on Spring Beach Way and Ebert Drive just after 3 a.m.
Police say that the four-wheel, white Polaris was on Spring Beach Road when for unknown reasons, it left the road and crashed into a heavily wooded area.
Hull was transported by Cary ambulance to Good Shepherd Hospital, where he later died. Kalal was flown via Flight for Life to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
The sheriff's office continues its investigation into the accident.
