Mt. Prospect hosts Italian band in concert Aug. 21

The Mount Prospect Park District and the Mount Prospect Community Band are proud to welcome Corpo Musicale Olgiatese from Como, Italy for a special concert on Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at Veterans Memorial Band Shell in Lions Park, Mount Prospect. The concert is free.

The community band of Olgiate Comasco in Italy has a long and rich history dating back to 1875. The group survived two World Wars and today performs concerts throughout Italy.

Under the direction of Edoardo Piazzoli, and thanks to a cultural exchange visit arranged by Community Band Director Ralph Wilder, Corpo Musicale Olgiatese will perform in Mount Prospect.

During their weeklong visit to the United States, Corpo Musicale will also perform concerts at the Italian Cultural Center in Melrose Park (1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23) and at Daley Plaza in Chicago (noon, Monday, Aug. 24).

The Mount Prospect Parks Foundation is accepting donations to help defray the costs of bringing this musical troupe to the United States. Checks should be made payable to the Foundation and forwarded to RecPlex, 420 W. Dempster St., Mount Prospect, IL 60056. Please write "Italian Band" in the memo area of your check.
