Cutler watch: Dinks and dunks Wed.

Jay Cutler's performance in 7-on-7 Wednesday was a very uninspiring (6-for-11 on mostly short stuff). His only long ball, to Greg Olsen, was well covered by rookie strong safety Al Afalava, who ran stride for stride with the swift tight end. Afalava has been making the most of his reps with the first team while Danieal Manning takes some snaps off with a minor hamstring strain.

Cutler's best throw of the day was a deep sideline route to Devin Hester, who was shadowed by Nate Vasher. But Cutler put just enough air under the pass that Hester was able to run underneath it and make a tough catch while adjusting to the ball as it came down straight overhead.

Cutler lined up as a wide receiver in the Wildcat formation twice. On the first, Hester took the snap, faked a handoff to Matt Forte and ran up the middle, but the defense wasn't fooled. The next time, Forte took the snap, sprinted right and threw a short completion to Hester.

After practice Cutler was asked if he was surprised no team had picked up Michael Vick yet.

"It's just a tough situation," Cutler said. "Michael served his time, and he's just trying to find a spot and get back in the league and try to become the player he was two or three years ago. Anybody that takes him it's going to kind of be a circus show there for a week or two and you're going to have to go through all the animal rights and stuff. It's just hard. I wish him the best of luck, though."

Asked if he'd want Vick as a backup, Cutler said, "I wouldn't mind it. I'm not against it."
