Two injured in Spring Grove house fire

Two people were injured in an early morning house fire in Spring Grove, authorities said Thursday.

A woman suffered burns over 50 percent of her body and was taken via Flight for Life to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. A man suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to Centegra Hospital-McHenry, officials said. Neither was identified by fire officials.

It is unclear what sparked the 7:55 a.m. fire in the living room of the ranch-style home at Nippersink Drive and Croyden Street near Fox Lake in unincorporated McHenry County, said Fox Lake Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Ed Lescher.

Lescher said the man, who lived in the home and was an aquaintence of the woman, was standing outside when he saw flames and smoke. He ran inside and pulled the woman to safety, Lescher said.

Officials estimate the fire destroyed 50 percent of the home, and the entire facility had smoke damage.

There were no fire hydrants in the area, Lescher said. Fire officials said they aren't sure if the home had working smoke detectors due to the extensive fire damage.

Fire departments from Antioch, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Lake Villa, McHenry Township and Spring Grove helped fight the fire.
