Libertyville woman in fatal crash denies charges

A Libertyville woman charged with drug possession after a crash that killed a motorcyclist pleaded not guilty to drug and traffic charges Wednesday in Lake County Circuit Court.

Dana Hoffman, 25, was arrested after a July 9 crash in Wauconda Township that killed 49-year-old Michael Adcock of McHenry.

Assistant State's Attorney Victor O'Block said Hoffman, of the 1400 block of Vineyard Lane, was eastbound on Case Road in a Dodge minivan about 10:25 p.m. when the vehicle crossed the centerline.

The minivan struck Adcock, who was westbound on a Harley Davidson, and he died at the scene.

Hoffman was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for blood tests, and police found drug paraphernalia in the car that tested positive for cocaine. Police have not released blood test results.

She was charged with possession of cocaine and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, O'Block said, and faces up to three years in prison if convicted.

State's Attorney Michael Waller said the crash remains under investigation and additional charges against Hoffman are possible.

Circuit Judge Victoria Rossetti scheduled a trial of the case for Aug. 31. Hoffman, who is held on $250,000 bond, was ordered to appear in court Aug. 27.
