Three hurt in crash on Route 53 in Schaumburg
A crash on northbound Route 53 in Schaumburg Monday left a woman hospitalized in critical condition and two others hospitalized with minor injuries, officials said.
Schaumburg Fire Department officials were called to the crash near the I-90 overpass around 4:30 p.m. after a tractor trailer rear-ended an SUV, trapping a woman inside, officials said. Firefighters extricated the woman within 10 minutes and transported her by ambulance in critical condition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. While firefighters worked to extricate the woman, gas started leaking from the vehicle, so firefighters applied a foam blanket over the gasoline while they worked.
The driver of a pickup truck that rolled over during the crash was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with minor injuries; and one person in a fourth vehicle was also transported to Northwest Community Hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
Cook County Sheriff's officials are investigating the crash.
