Authorities probe fire
Warrenville police are seeking the public's help in investigating a weekend fire that damaged construction equipment near Galusha Road and Wilbur Avenue. A medium-sized Komatsu backhoe/excavator sustained substantial damage during the blaze, which authorities discovered about 5:42 a.m. Sunday. Anyone with information about the incident should contact Warrenville police at (630) 393-2131. Tips may be provided anonymously.
Opera comes to NCC
Chicago-based da Corneto Opera will present "Opera Favorites" during a concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at North Central College's Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. The opera company originally was scheduled to perform "Faust," but postponed the production until next spring due to difficulties in securing visas for visiting guest artists and delayed funding. The "Opera Favorites" program will be performed with piano accompaniment. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and are available by calling the college box office at (630) 637-7469.
Gymnast travels to Dallas
A 16-year-old Naperville girl, Rachel Anderson, is in Dallas this week as top rhythmic gymnasts from across the U.S. gather to compete at the VISA National Championships Aug. 12-15 at the Dallas Convention Center. Rachel trains at Elite Sports Complex in Downers Grove and is coached by Maria Barakova and Jadranka Atanaskovic.
