One person was injured after a car and a box truck collided on Route 59 near West Chicago early Monday morning.

The head-on collision shut down Route 59 at James Street for more than an hour, police officials said.

West Chicago Fire Department Lt. Lee Westrom said the driver of the car had to be extricated from his vehicle, although he said the injuries didn't appear serious.

Names of the people involved are being withheld, but Westrom said the driver of the car was transported to Central DuPage Hospital with minor injuries. He added the driver of the box truck refused treatment at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, West Chicago police officials said.

Route 59 was shut down in both directions for about 90 minutes while the incident was investigated and the wreckage was removed. The roadway reopened at about 7 a.m.
