Mount Prospect man charged with possessing narcotics

A Mount Prospect man was charged with felony possession of cocaine and pills containing a narcotic painkiller after a patrol officer saw him quickly toss them aside.

Jonah Cordell, 28, of the 1700 block of Forest Cove, was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Adam Klugman.

An officer saw Cordell standing by his pickup truck and then quickly toss aside a bag as the officer approached, authorities said.

The officer retrieved the bag and sent it for laboratory testing, which revealed it held about 20 pills containing hydrocodone, an opiate, and about 10 grams of cocaine, said Klugman.

Cordell, a roofer, did not have a prescription for the hydrocodone, Klugman said.

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Kay Hanlon set a $35,000 bond for Cordell. A hearing is set for Monday at the courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
