Aurora resident Tasered

A 19-year-old Aurora man had to be subdued with a Taser early Wednesday after fighting with police.

Rodrigo Mercado, 19, of the 900 block of Superior Street was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of a converted vehicle, and resisting arrest at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at his home.

According to police, Mercado was spotted running a stop sign at Galena Boulevard and Smith Street in a stolen vehicle that turned out to be from Montgomery.

Officers pursued Mercado to his home on Superior Street where Mercado remained uncooperative. When an officer attempted to take him into custody, Mercado repeatedly refused the officer's demands. Police said the officer had to deploy his Taser in order to get Mercado to comply.

Mercado was not injured in the incident.
