Corey Diamond fundraiser:

The second annual Corey Diamond Memorial Fundraiser takes place 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at Arlington Lanes, 3425 N. Kennicott, Arlington Heights. The $35 cost includes dinner and bowling, and the event also includes live entertainment, raffles and prizes. Proceeds benefit the Corey Diamond Memorial Fund, which supports local music, arts and community service programs and was created in honor of Corey. The Arlington Heights 16-year-old was killed in 2006 in Wheeling when the car he was riding in was struck by another car whose driving ran a red light while eluding police. Corey's friend Elliott Cellini was seriously injured in the crash. The driver, Ralph Lewis, was sentenced to 45 years in prison. Registration for the fundraiser can be done at the door on online at coreydiamondmemorialfund.org.

Streamwood park grant:

The Streamwood Park District announced Wednesday that it has been awarded a $15,000 grant for projects from Kellogg's. The park district won an online contest in which Web surfers voted for 55 parks and other projects from across the country. Streamwood's Hoosier Grove Field, near Rt. 59 and Irving Park Road, will be the recipient of the money. Officials will use the funds to re-sod the soccer field. Park officials hope work to be complete by the end of the year, but it could last until early 2010. The cereal maker launched the contest with a commercial played on Super Bowl Sunday.
