Prince of Peace names new principal
Prince of Peace Catholic School in Lake Villa has named Bonnie Brown as its new principal. Brown is taking the leadership role after the retirement of former principal Mary Lou Cacioppo. School officials say Brown has more than 30 years of experience in Catholic education, having taught elementary and high school students. Most recently, she was principal at Guerin College Preparatory High School in River Grove.
Help military families at Gurnee Days:
Jackets, T-shirts and shorts featuring the names and logos representing the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard or Army National Guard will be on sale at the Gurnee Days festival Saturday, Aug. 15 and Sunday, Aug. 16. Proceeds will benefit College of Lake County's Willow Lake Veterans Memorial and Fisher House, a nonprofit organization that helps military families. Windbreaker jackets will sell for $25, the T-shirts for $10 and the shorts for $5. Most of the action for Gurnee Days will be at Viking Park off Old Grand Avenue.
Classic cars and swing band in Ingleside:
Miller's Dog N Suds Drive In will host "Classic Car Night" on Saturday, Aug. 8, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The 18-piece Lakes Area Swing Band will perform oldies for dancing and listening enjoyment. Jamaican Independence Day celebration in North Chicago:
Greenbelt Cultural Center will host its seventh annual celebration of Jamaica's independence day on Sunday, Aug. 9, 4 to 8 p.m. DJ Boombastick entertains at 4 p.m., followed by Ifficial Reggae Movement at 6 p.m. Dancing and a limbo competition will keep guests grooving. Jamaican food, clothing and more will be available for sale. Entrance is free and no registration is required. All ages are invited to the event at 1215 Green Bay Road, North Chicago.
