GOP in parade: City should be thrilled
In his letter to the editor, David Scott Thayer of Wheaton argues that Republicans have taken over Wheaton's Independence Day parade, "made it bloated and boring" and suggested the renaming of the parade "to what it has truly become, The DuPage Republicans Independence Day Rally."
Thayer is an excellent spokesman for the Democrats and Republicans In Name Only who have invaded DuPage County to take advantage of the prosperity and safety that Republicans created there. Previously, Democrats and RINOs shouted that they did not want "politicians" in the parade, but everyone knows that "politicians" meant "Republicans."
Of the parade's approximate 125 entries, only 18 were Republican - one congressman, four state senators, one state representative, four county officials, three judges, four candidates and one township party - and seven of them are running for statewide offices.
Outrageously, Thayer does not acknowledge that 34 Republicans sponsored three parade entries - Cub Scout Pack 64, Chicago Highlanders and the Crystal Lake Strikers, which won the "Outstanding Showmanship and Dramatic Impact" award.
Needless to say, the residents of any city should be overjoyed when elected officials and candidates walk in their parades. If fewer Republicans participated in Wheaton's parade, the Democrats and RINOs would argue that Republicans were afraid to show their faces to the people.
Why were the Democrats and RINOs only able to get three of theirs - Lisa Madigan, PFLAG DuPage, and the Democratic Party of Milton Township - to enter the parade? Outrageously, the Democrats and RINOs do more each year to discourage Republicans from participating in the parades. They are currently charging them $150 to discourage them from participating, but they would love to charge them $500, $1,000 or more. They would love to ban them altogether. Because of that, you can count on me to do more each year to fight efforts that discourage Republicans from participating in the parades.
